Legislators book 'Five-0' for commendation

State legislators will salute and commend “Hawaii Five-0,” the reboot of the iconic Island-based TV series, at noon Thursday (March 31) in the House Chambers.
The CBS creators of the briskly-paced procedural remake, along with two cast members, will be present for the honor: Glenn Fuller, CBS Senior Vice President of Current Programming; Peter Lenkov, Executive Producer; Paul Zbyszewski, Co-Executive Producer; Brad Turner, Co-Executive Producer and Director; Jeff Downer, Co-Unit Production Manager; and cast Alex O'Loughlin (Steve McGarrett) and Daniel Dae Kim (Chin Ho Kelly).
“While some may have had their doubts about bringing back this iconic series,” said Rep. K. Mark Takai (District 34 – Aiea, Pearl City), “it really was a win-win for everyone involved-especially our local film and television industry. The success of the new series tells other production companies that Hawaii is a good place for film and television ventures.”
“Five-0” has led its Monday primetime ratings; the pilot episode attracted 17 million viewers, and the season’s 15th episode, airing Jan. 23, drew the largest viewership — 20.95 million.
With its film-quality on-location shooting, “Five-0” has brought the Island paradise that is Hawaii to a global audience, since it’s aired in more than 200 international markets besides the U.S.
A second-season pickup is inevitable, so the obvious question is: Will the CBS honchos announce the go-for-it green light at this pivotal intersection before state legislators?
PS: They didn’t announce renewal, but this should happen on May 16 (Upfronts date for CBS).

Men’s Fitness magazine has announced in a news release its list of the 25 Fittest Guys, and Alex O’Loughlin of “Hawaii Five-0;” Joel McHale of “Community and “The Soup;” Joe Manganiello of “True Blood,” Henry Cavill of “The Tudors” and Chip Wade of “Curb Appeal: The Block” and Designed to Sell” are among the men chosen from the small screen.
Other honorees include Chris Evans, Liam Neeson, LeBron James, Michael Fassbender, Bradley Cooper; Kellan Lutz, David Beckham, Chris Pine, Dr. Dre and Jeremy Renner.
