For Odie and all of those TBBT fans! Spoilers galore on the S2 opener - "The Electric Can Opener Fluctuation" due to air on Monday September 21st. When we left Sheldon, Leonard et al, the guys had just departed for the North Pole to conduct an experiment to try and validate string theory, while Penny was left back in LA having potentially realised true feelings for Leonard at long last. Here’s the full premiere synopsis from CBS:

"The Electric Can Opener Fluctuation" – Sheldon flees back to Texas in disgrace when he learns the guys tampered with his arctic expedition data, forcing the guys to follow him and threatening Leonard's hopes for a romantic encounter with Penny, on the premiere of THE BIG BANG THEORY, Monday, Sept. 21 (9:30-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

As if this couldn’t get any better, this ep will features guest appearances by Laurie Metcalfe as Sheldon’s hilariously religious mother, and John Ross Bowie as Barry Kripke, who you may remember as “the guy with the ridiculous speech impediment”. A gallery from the episode follows below, including some intriguing shots of bearded geeks, domestic arguments, and something that will be of particular interest to fans of Leonard and Penny.

Behind the Scenes with TBBT at EW photoshoot

From EW.com
Cast of The Big Bang Theory, is there anything I don’t love about you? These behind-the-scenes videos from our year in review photoshoot with Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, and Kunal Nayyar pretty much made my heart explode.

Bazinga!

Thanks heavens -- I like her with Leonard...HA. I adore them as weird friends, but the idea of them actually hooking up is just kinda creepy. Although I think a fun scene would be having a girl be interested in Sheldon b/c you know he won't see it...imagine a girl throwing herself at him & kiss him....his reaction would be great!

Holding out hope for a Sheldon-Penny romance on The Big Bang Theory? It might be time to throw in the towel. Speaking to reporters at press tour this morning, exec producer Chuck Lorre pretty much shot down any chance there was of the polar opposites hooking up.

“Part of [what's so great about] Sheldon is he has chosen not to play in the relationship game either way — heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual,” Lorre said. “He’s like, ‘I’m a scientist and all I’m interested in is science.’”

Added fellow e.p. Bill Prady: “[Sheldon] has made this choice that work and all of that is where he finds his passion.”

Lorre acknowledged that Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco have “become a natural comic pairing because [Penny] can tell him the truth. She’s not intimidated by him. They bounce off each other beautifully.”

Lorre also admitted that the Penny character was “underserved” in the Big Bang pilot, a problem he quickly set out to rectify. “It was [a priority] to develop that character and find more depth.”

I'm actually thrilled by this! I love Sheldon and Penny as friends. Its hilarious to watch Sheldon just try to figure out this relationship and take baby steps with Penny, who I'm guessing is his first female and non-geek friend! Bravo to Jim and Kaley!

'The Theorists': 'Big Bang Theory''s big Belarusian rip-off

Chuck Lorre has used the vanity cards at the end of his shows for a variety of purposes: complaining about CBS, commenting on racial politics, explaining science, and last night, he used a card to call out a Belarusian version of The Big Bang Theory.

According to the card, “…Belarus does have a bustling TV production industry. One of their most recent hits is a sitcom about four nerdy scientists who live next door to a beautiful blonde waitress. The characters are named Sheldon, Leo, Hovard, Raj and Natasha, and the show is entitled, The Theorists. Each episode begins with a rapid-fire montage of images which takes us from the dawn of time to the present moment. Keeping with that theme, the montage is scored with what is probably the worst piece of recorded pop music since the dawn of time. And finally, each episode appears to be a Russian translation of a Big Bang Theory episode.”

Judging from the photos on the show’s website and the way-too-familiar videos [via], it’s a blatantly obvious clone:

It’s also apparently unlicensed, and according to Lorre, “it’s next to impossible to sue for copyright infringement in Belarus because the TV production company that is ripping us off is owned and operated by the government of Belarus.”

The theft bugs me, certainly, but I’m almost more bothered by how old faux Walowitz and Leonard are.

Wow! That's obnoxious! I feel for Chuck! That certainly isn't flattery by imitation now is it?
