Suzanne - Thanks for posting this. This is one the better reviews that I have read today. The Watchmen is not for the faint of heart or those looking for a feel-good superhero flick! This is, and if it is to remain true to the story, a dark, controversial, and violent movie. Jeffrey Dean Morgan's character is as far from Denny Duquette and John Winchester as one could get... and IMHO this shows the actor's amazing versitility and intestinal fortitude. I can imagine that other actors would not have wanted to get within ten feet of this script or character based on the expectations of rabid fanboys and the fact that the Comedian is one nasty dude!

I'm a fan of the Watchmen and have been for twenty + years having first read the Watchmen as part of a class on social commentary. A friend who saw it last night said that it left him exhausted, frustrated and exhilirated at times... he loved the action sequences and says that the start of the movie is not to be missed, the almost three hour run time was too much (especially since it was a midnight show), and being a die-hard Watchmen graphic novel fan he felt like there were too many edits. With all that said, I will be going to watch this movie in a week or so after all of the hoopla dies down and I fully expect to be one of the few females in the audience. I'll let you know what I think and if you or any of the MVSers see it this weekend please do post your thoughts - I'm uber curious to see how it translates to film!

Well Flo, I just arrived home from the movies. After all the buzz, I had to go watch this movie right away. I totally loved it! With that said, it is indeed a very violent, strong, disgusting at times movie (all things I usually enjoy, and this time was no exception!). Very depressing too, the world it portrays is a very dark, pessimistic one. For God' sake, Nixon is still president!! That alone is awful LOL. Anyhow, the Comedian is a nasty SOB. He does some unspeakable things in the movie, you really hate the guy, but at the end he's right: human kind is always gonna destroy itself, it's in our nature, so you might as well enjoy the ride, and try and save them from themselves (kind of a very twisted, yet cool thinking). JDM does a great job portraying the Comedian, and I agree with you Flo, he took a great risk by doing it.
The music is great and it does justice to the movie itself, which is too much in every sense, awesome special effects.
Bottom line, I love heroes that are human, that aren't flawless, and thinking they are God heroes ... Dr. Manhattan is the only neutral one, sort of not having feelings makes him more objective.
I totally recommend it :Winner: , but be aware it's exhilarating and exhausting at the same time. A lot of blood and violence ... and no regrets whatsoever!
xoxo

According to a few websites, I believe that the
Watchmen Director's Cut and regular version DVD are due to hit stores July 21st, 2009.

Finally! I feel like it's been so long since the theatrical release!
And I still haven't seen the movie, so I'm really excited for the DVD release!

So, I just watched Watchmen Director's Cut again for the second time today, I forgot to post when I first saw it, but I thought the movie was great. Although I haven't read the graphic novel, I thought that the actors they picked to portray the characters were a perfect match. They just seemed to fit into each role so comfortably. The movie was definitely not exactly how I imagined it, there were a couple parts where I was expecting something different to happen. POSSIBLE SPOILERS: Before I saw the movie, I heard or saw something on the internet that led me to believe that Dan was going to die, and he is my favorite character. So the whole time watching it, I'm expecting him to die at the end, and then Rorshack dies . . and even though I was sad about that, I was thrilled that Dan didn't die. I thought Dan and Laurie were so cute together. Their love scene was pretty steamy. I love the opening credits, the music they picked for it was perfect. The scenes the picked were also perfect, everything just went so smoothy together, and that part really moved me. I also liked the scene of The Comedian's funeral, with the song Sound of Silence playing, yet again, another perfect song for that scene. While on the topic of music, I was sad that the Muse song Take A Bow was only in the previews and not the actual movie. In the preview, that song flowed so well with the scenes form the movie, they definitely could have and should have found a place for it somewhere in the movie. I loved the scenes with Dan when he finds out Hollis was murdered and when he sees Dr. Manhattan kill Rorshack. Patrick Wilson really did a great job acting these parts and showing great emotion. There were a few scenes that were a tad gory, and maybe there was some nudity, but I feel like everyone was making it out to be a very bad (content) movie, which I don't really it was that bad.

Overall, this is definitely a movie I must buy when it comes to DVD. I loved it. I recommend it to everyone, just be prepared, its practically a 3 hour movie. But I like long movies, so not really a big deal.
