BREAKING NEWS! PER MICHAEL AUSIELLO OF EW.COM - RUMORS ABOUND OF A VERONICA MARS MOVIE!

Exclusive: Bell, Thomas Orbit 'Veronica Mars' Movie
Aug 19, 2008, 11:47 AM | by Michael Ausiello

Categories: Veronica Mars

Yeah, yeah, okay, so it would've been kinda cool to be in Beijing last week when Michael Phelps won his record-shattering eighth gold medal. But it would've been even cooler to have had a ringside seat in Rob Thomas' office instead: At around the same time the man from Atlantis was making the splash heard 'round the world, the creator of Veronica Mars was sitting down with his beloved, lamented series' star, Kristen Bell, to discuss bringing the cult hit to the big screen.

Seriously.

The impromptu powwow took place last week in the offices of Thomas' Hollywood-based production company, which just so happens to be located on the same lot where Bell is shooting Heroes. "Kristen and I ran into each other, and we did discuss a Veronica movie," confirms Thomas, who says he has also had "a few conversations" with Mars executive producer Joel Silver.

"It's very tough to focus on it right now with two pilots on my plate," adds Thomas, referring to his two ABC projects, a reworking of his '90s dramedy Cupid and an adaptation of the New Zealand series Outrageous Fortune. "But as soon as I have any free time, that's my top priority."

For her part, Bell considers it a "major compliment" that people are still interested in Mars. "[Fans] still ask me all the time if the show's coming back. Emotionally, I don't want to think about Veronica Mars every day because it really does make me sad."

Regarding her recent chat with Thomas about a Mars feature, the star of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, perhaps not wanting to jinx things, flashes a Cheshire cat grin and says, "We'll see."

Translation: We're halfway there to getting this thing greenlit! Now let's take care of the other half by turning the comments section into a makeshift petition. Do you want to see a VM feature? Register your support below! (Additional reporting by Jeff Jensen)

Having never seen an episode of Veronica Mars, it's hard for me to get overly excited. But if they include Jason in the movie, then I could muster up some enthusiasm. I really developed a love and respect for Jason's talent. He portrayed Josef so well and gave me so many moments of pleasure, that I will definitely follow his career now. And if that leads me to the VM movie....all the better.

I'm very happy for all of you VM fans out there. I know I would give anything to be halfway to a Moonlight movie. ::sigh::

OMG, OMG! I love Veronica Mars. It was sooo snarky and fun. I really miss that show. Kristen Bell is so very talented and adorable. Her chemistry with Jason is PERFECT! Those two were awesome together. I was so upset when they canceled VM and left us hanging. To rub salt in the wounds even more a season 4 premiere episode showed up on youtube.com. I guess it was what was pitched to WB when the "To Cancel or Not to Cancel" meeting was going on. So, they said cancel. We cry and a few months later we see this awesome episode of what could have been. So not cool.

If you guys didn't see the episode Veronica gets into the FBI academy. Very cool.

Mel - I am SO sending you the Veronica Mars dvds! All three seasons! At Candy's suggestion (from when I first joined the board) I recently purchased all three and am LOVING JASON as Logan! OMG! Here I was thinking that his role as Josef was Jason at his best ... I'm quickly becoming pursuaded that some of Jason's best acting was done in the role of Logan Echolls on VM! If only MVS had given him some more time and room he would have BLOWN US AWAY! I don't know why I didn't latch on to VM when it first came out... I really love the main characters (Veronica, Logan, Weevil, Keith and now the nerdy Mac) and will be in the front of the line (right next to Candy) if they come out with a VM movie! :) I have to know what happens...
