http://alexoloughlinrocks.com/latest-he ... ve-0-pilotAlex O’Loughlin Shares Three Things About “Hawaii Five-0″ Pilot Posted by mizzoH on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 In what is his first lengthy direct reference to the new Hawaii Five-0 pilot, we learn that Alex O’Loughlin is once again doing many of his own stunts (during his Moonlight days, he estimated performing 70% of his own stunt work); that Hawaii Five-0 is apparently CBS’s biggest pilot to date; and that our hunky Aussie is very excited about his new project! The article posted at Hollywood News may not be the personal blog that some fans are still longing for, but it is satisfying to read, nevertheless. The new Hawaii Five-O promises to be action packed. O’Loughlin is still smarting from the stunts he’s performed himself. “I’ve been getting thrown out of tanks, beaten around the island of Oahu for a couple of weeks and I’ve just come back.” The hunk factor likely comes into play. O’Loughlin has taken his shirt off in films and television, to the delight of fans. If he’s seen running down the beach with an open Hawaiian shirt blowing in the wind, you’ll see just how roughly the new Hawaii Five-O is treating him. ”If I took my shirt off, I look like a beaten piece of beef.” That’s about all O’Loughlin can say for now. “I’ve been given direct orders not to talk about it. I’m allowed to say three things about the show. I’m very excited about it and I hope all the fans really enjoy what we’ve done.” Alex being Alex, he also takes a moment to express his sincere appreciation for the opportunity to take on the iconic role of Steve McGarrett: “First of all, I’m deeply grateful to live and work in this country and to the United States for opening its arms to me the way it has. My attitude as an Aussie coming here, I’ve been coming here for a while now, sort of been coming here for 12 or 13 years. This country has afforded me, my family work and security. For that I’m forever grateful. As an extension of that, being accepted to the point and loved to the point by you guys that I’m allowed to step into someone like Jack Lord’s shoes to play a character like Steve McGarrett in Hawaii Five O is massive for me. It’s not lost on me the significance of that.”

It is so typical of Alex to be humble and appreciative of his employment oppotunities here in the U.S. Aftter 13 years, many actors wouldn't be as gracious. Just one of the many reasons I admire him.
As for tackling the role of McGarrett....Hawaii Five-o was alwayds one of my favorites and I hope this works out for Alex. He has big shoes to fill, as Jack Lord was so perfect in this role. But I think Alex will take it on and make it his own. The writers are already creating a personal background for this character that the original didn't have. I can't wait to see where they take him and the show.
I'm looking forward to Daniel Dae Kim too. Interesting choice, but I think a good one. Ditto for Jean Smart. She is a wonderful actress and she'll be great as the Governor. I hope they give her more than a cursory part.
As for Caan....I'm less thrilled with that casting. But then, I was so smitten with James McArthur, it's hard for me to imagine anyone else as Danno.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that Hawaii Five-o makes it onto the fall schedule. But I really think there isn't much of a chance that it won't. CBS has always loved this show and they'll do everything for it that they failed to do for Moonlight.

http://blog.zap2it.com/thedishrag/2010/ ... ent-781920Hawaii Five-O': Alex O'Loughlin plays a Navy SEAL, says 'Book 'em, Danno' By Elizabeth Snead April 2, 2010 6:57 PM ET Alex O'Loughlin -- a veteran of three TV series "Moonlight," "Three Rivers," "The Shield" -- stars opposite Jennifer Lopez in the new romantic comedy, "The Back-Up Plan," but don't worry. He's still in the TV game, starring in the new "Hawaii Five-O." To prep for playing Steve McGarrett, he watched a few episodes of the original 1968 series. "It's very dated and it's funny to go back and watch it, even the acting is very stylized and the voice work is so different," O'Loughlin told The Dish Rag exclusively. The new "Five-O" will be very different overall. Yes, the theme music is the same. And Steve is still fighting crime in Hawaii. But it's on a whole other level. "Steve is a Navy Seal," O'Loughlin explains. "He spent his childhood in Hawaii, left, joined the military and became a special ops commander, then comes back to the island for a reason and ends up running a task force for the government." Just don't expect him to wear Hawaiian shirts. O'Loughlin reveals: "I'm in my dress blues and metal racks for special occasions and on the set the rest of the time, I'm really a cargo pants, T-shirt, tactical boots kind of guy." In the teaser, O'Loughlin is seen in North Korea on a mission in full military gear with lots of stunts, gun play, hand-to-hand fighting. "I love all that stuff," he admits. What will audiences be surprised by? The relationship between Alex and Scott Caan, who plays Danno Williams. "We really hit it off. We were born on the same day, about 7 hours apart and even though we come from different sides of the planet, there are a lot of similarities between us." He has high hopes for the show but doesn't want to get disappointed. "I'm so tired right now, I've worked two weeks straight without a day off, and worked through the weekend to get days off for the press junket for "The Back-Up Plan." "I don't why it's not gonna get picked up," he says of the series. "But I've done this three times before and learned the hard and painful way that you have to put it out of your mind. You can have 10 million viewers and everything looks amazing and the next day, you're canceled." But one thing remains the same. Alex does say, "Book 'em Danno," at the end of the show's pilot, which should please fans of the original series.

Poor guy, they are working him like crazy. Two weeks straight with no day off? That's insane!

I know that he was devasted with the cancellation of ML and even with Three Rivers, it hurt.

http://www.tvguidemagazine.com/news/ale ... -5057.htmlAlex O'Loughlin Shares Hawaii Five-0 Scoop! CBS knew what they were doing when they cast Alex O'Loughlin in the role of Detective Steve McGarrett in the remake of the 70s classic Hawaii Five-0. Though there was no cracking the Australian actor when it came to the plot of the upcoming pilot, he did share some behind-the-scenes information about the series with TV Guide Magazine while attending Thursday's Australians in Film 6th Annual Breakthrough Awards in Beverly Hills. O'Loughlin said he expects fans of the original Hawaii Five-0 will be happy with the modern-day version. "One of our main priorities is maintaining the integrity of Hawaii Five-0," he says. "We pay homage to the old series, but it is a new, contemporary remake of an old classic. I hope fans really like it." When it came to scenes from McGarrett's past as a Navy Seal, O'Loughlin definitely enjoyed himself. His favorite thing - "Blowing things up." Might a civilian McGarrett find himself involved in pyrotechnics now that he's on the force? "Once a seal, always a seal, right?" O'Loughlin teases. As for McGarrett's relationship with Hawaii Governor Pat Jameson, the person responsible for pulling together the special task force McGarrett heads up, O'Loughlin stays mum. He has plenty to say, though, about Jean Smart, who plays Jameson. "She's amazing," he says. "She came in on pretty short notice and nailed the role." O'Loughlin's lips are sealed, too, about the possibility of Victor Hesse, the gang lord who murdered McGarrett's father, being a recurring character throughout the series. If rumors are true, however, James Marsters, Spike of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame will be pulling out all the stops as McGarrett's evil nemesis. Much to the chagrin of Danny "Danno" Williams, played by Scott Caan, the familiar phrase, "Book 'em, Danno," will be bandied about in the new series. Though McGarrett may rib Danno, O'Loughlin has nothing but accolades for his castmate. "He's incredible," O'Loughlin says of Caan. "I think he's the best thing about the show, to be honest." Other scene grabbers viewers should be on the lookout for – Daniel Dae Kim as Chin Ho Kelly and Grace Park. "Park is playing Kona, who used to be a man," says O'Loughlin. And beyond Kim's onscreen role as Kelly, he performed as O'Loughlin's personal welcome wagon, helping him get the lay of the island. "He was wonderful, so hospitable," says O'Loughlin of the Lost alum. Indeed, such hospitality was extended from Oahu itself. "I felt really loved into the island and the culture there," says O'Loughlin. "I'm looking forward to moving there in a month." Which leads Hawaii Five-0 fans to wonder – will he be unpacking his bags for long? "The show has a lot going for it," says O'Loughlin of his third major television series. "I really feel like three is a charm for me."

http://livefeed.hollywoodreporter.com/2 ... -more.htmlMay 17, 2010 CBS picks up 'Hawaii Five-0,' 'Defenders,' more It's official: CBS has picked up its remake of the classic tropical cop drama "Hawaii Five-0." "Five-O" is among four new shows the network has just ordered for next season. New Chuck Lorre comedy "Mike & Molly" (pictured), family cop show "Blue Bloods" (formerly "Reagan's Law") starring Tom Selleck and legal drama "Defenders" with Jim Belushi will also join the CBS primetime schedule.
