Director to publish book on making "Twilight"

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – "Twilight" took moviegoers on a magical trip into the world of vampires, but director Catherine Hardwicke will pierce the film's fantasy bubble in a new book detailing how it was made.

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the division of Hachette Book Group, will release "Twilight: Director's Notebook" on March 17, the company said on Wednesday.

The book is timed to take advantage of the hype surrounding the vampire romance movie as its DVD comes out on March 21.

In the book, Hardwicke reveals details about casting, location scouting, wardrobe and her favorite scenes. The book also has behind-the-scenes photos and storyboard sketches, and is designed to replicate the director's own personal notebook she kept on set.

Hardwicke has been replaced as director of the "Twilight" sequel "New Moon," which is due out November 20, from director Chris Weitz, who made fantasy "The Golden Compass" in 2007.

Independent studio Summit Entertainment took the film industry by surprise with its runaway success on "Twilight," which has made $341.2 million worldwide since its November 21 release, according to tracking firm Box Office Mojo.

The movie is based on a series of "Twilight" books popular with girls and young women from author Stephenie Meyer.

Little, Brown Books said that it will print 500,000 copies of "Twilight: Director's Notebook" on first printing.

'Twilight' Diary: Exclusive Sneak Peek!
Get your first look at Catherine Hardwicke's upcoming book with insider details about the making of the smash movie from the Stephenie Meyer novel. See more in the print edition of Entertainment Weekly out this Friday

Twilighters in need of a fix before Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster sequel New Moon arrives in theaters thought they needed to wait until March 27 to see Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart again. That’s the day their new movies open: Little Ashes (Rob’s, a Salvador Dalí biopic) and Adventureland (Kristen’s, an ’80s comedy.) But it turns out fans can see their Twilight favorites much sooner. On March 17 Little, Brown will publish the detailed on-set journal that Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke kept throughout filming.

http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,2023455 ... 39,00.html

Hardwicke has given EW an exclusive first peek at Twilight: Director’s Notebook, which looks less like a diary than a scrapbook, studded with drawings, makeup and wardrobe notes, storyboards, lists, sketches, photos, and all kinds of odd nuggets of information (did you know Rob was first tricked out with hair extensions to give him his trademark look)? Hardwicke's publisher will only allow us to put two pages online, so to see the rest, you’ll have to pick up a copy of the Feb. 20 issue of EW, available here.

Hardwicke told EW that although she was “devastated” to not be directing New Moon—“I really did feel a strong connection to Stephenie and the actors” —she simply couldn’t do it under the terms Summit set forth, with a limited budget and strict timetable. The book is her smart, funny farewell, its margins full of her doodlings and ideas.

But the book isn’t the only thing fans have to look forward to. They’ll also be able to snap up the Twilight DVD on March 21. Its bonus materials, Hardwicke told EW, will include makeout scenes deleted from the movie.

Yea, that was a given. Like a moth to the flame everyone will run towards this franchise. We should invest in something with it too. Bwaha!

She was the director so I don't really think that is jumping on the bandwagon.

Don't mind the boys - they know not of what they speak. The book looks cool, Drea. I had no idea that they filmed the meadow scene in Griffith Park. Wow - who would've thunk it.

'Twilight' exclusive: Director Catherine Hardwicke thanks fans for making her 'Director's Notebook' No. 1

She made the movie, she wrote the book, and now Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has a message for all her fans out there: Thanks for helping the movie and the book (and, really, everything else Twilight) hit No. 1! The filmmaker/author just found out that her Twilight: Director's Notebook will be at the top of Sunday's New York Times best-seller list, so she wrote a little note and shot a little video to commemorate the occasion. We present both to you, exclusively...

Dear Twilight fans,

I wanted to send out a note of thanks to all of you. I recently found
out that my book, Twilight: Director's Notebook, will debut at #1 on
this Sunday's New York Times bestseller list. I am stunned. Throughout
this entire process, from pre-production on the film, to the premieres,
to my book events, I have always been overwhelmed by the support the
Twilight fans have had for me, the movie and now my book. I wanted to
give the fans, as well as aspiring filmmakers, a closer look at how we
made the movie and I hope you enjoyed entering my world of making films
as much as I have had in being part of the Twilight world.

Click here for the video...she has such a "hippie chick" vibe.

It's such a cool looking book. I browsed through it at the the bookstore the other night but didn't pick it up. Maybe I should...
