:Haha: I like creepy too (to an extent).. I enjoyed the book, but some parts had me scratching my head.

And Can is NOT shamed to admit.... I cried during the "goodbye" part in the meadow

I felt the exact same way about this book, didn't really cry ... but almost, and not only in that part!
Being a Twilight fan as I am (more of the books than the movie, at least so far) I could put up with a lot of the weirdness this book has, so I'll take my Twilight dose any way SM wants to give it to me LOL!

Since this was not one of my favorites (as much as I LOVE everything Twilight) I am surprised by this news but Congratulations to SM!

Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer wins Children’s Book of the Year at the Galaxy British Book Awards

London, 6 April 2009:

Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer was today awarded the prestigious WHSmith Children’s Book of the Year Award at the Galaxy British Book Awards, the Oscars of the book world.

Breaking Dawn is the fourth novel in the phenomenally successful Twilight Saga – a supernatural romance series in which Bella Swan walks the line between immortals (vampires) and mortals.

Breaking Dawn beat JK Rowling’s The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Eoin Colfer’s Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox, Dav Pilkey’s Captain Underpants and the Preposterous Plight, Francesca Simons’ Horrid Henry Robs the Bank and Claire Freedman & Ben Cort’s Dinosaurs Love Underpants.

Speaking from her home in Arizona, Stephenie Meyer said winning the award was “amazing and phenomenal”. She went on to say how overjoyed she was and thanked all the people who read her books.

Published by Atom (an imprint of Little, Brown) in August 2008, Breaking Dawn has already sold over 400,000 copies in hardback. More than 47 million copies of the series have now been sold – including over 2.6 million copies in the UK - and it has been translated into 33 languages. Last November saw the release of the film Twilight - the first book in the series; a film version of New Moon - the second in the series - is due for release this November.

The shortlist was chosen by the votes of WHSmith’s customers after a month long promotion of a longlist of titles from 6 different age brackets. The public together with the Academy of the British Book Industry then voted for their favourite from the shortlist.

Stephenie Meyer's life changed dramatically on 2nd June 2003, when the stay-at-home mother of three young sons woke up from a dream featuring seemingly real characters that she could not get out of her head. Three months later she finished her first novel, Twilight. The series has since become an international phenomenon, catapulting her to stardom. This year in the UK alone, a copy of The Twilight Saga has been sold every 6 seconds.

Considering the controversy over some of the graphic scenes in this book and the Brits' reputation of being a "prim and proper" culture - I'm surprised at this award. Good for Stephenie, she really is stirring up the book world!

I sure wouldn't want my children (if I had any) to read the childrens book of the year. JMO I probably wouldn't let "children" read twilight. Depends on the age.

I agree...by no means do I view this as a children's book...I think 13-14 is the bottom age limit.

Stephenie Meyer wins Children's Choice Book Awards ... for Breaking Dawn

Congratulations to Stephenie Meyer, author of the Twilight series novels and inspiration to many, for all of her achievements. The latest, it seems, is the Childrens Choice Book Award's Author of the Year prize - as well as Teen Choice Book of the Year.

The contest, whose "winners were chosen in six categories, broken down by agre groups--220,000 online votes were cast by children around the country," resulted in two wins for Meyer for the same work - Breaking Dawn.

Breaking Dawn, the fourth and (though some might hope otherwise) final book in the Twilight series, may arguably be the most adult of the lot.

[ * Warning * the following contains spoilers about Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer ]
While love scenes in the book are of a sheltered nature, the overall essence of them is still quite prevalent. While some might argue that children who read these scenes might not understand them, others might say they are fully capable of understanding what married folks do on their honeymoons.

Regardless, the presentation of the awards to Meyer is very interesting. Whether or not children are fully capable of understanding the romantic innuendos contained in Breaking Dawn (not to mention the grueling agony suffered by its protagonist through the eyes of her all but green-eyed admirer and the ripping and shredding that occurs on multiple occasions in multiple different scenarios), and whether or not the award was decided by popular-type vote, the fact that Meyer is being recognized with awards such as these show that either society is becoming more progressive or children's books as a genre are being given a wider berth. In any case, congratulations once again to Stephenie Meyer for all of her well-deserved accomplishments and recognition

Wow - I'm glad that she is getting recognition for her work but as an educator I'd be hard pressed to cast a vote for this book in particular as A Children's Choice Award winner. The scenes were way to graphic and not appropriate for most children and pre-teens in this award's target years which I believe are ages 5-15. Heck some of those scenes made me squeamish and I'm a hardened 42 year old adult. I loved the series (only liked this particular book of the series) and believe Stephenie deserves accolades for writing an entertaining and sunspenseful series but Children's Choice Award winner of the Year? That I question...

I agree...this book least of all of them should be read by Children. I love the series but I'm sorry I just don't see her in the same writing skills catagory as J.K. Rowling and some other really great writers. Just my opinion...

Twilight's Breaking Dawn bookends

Image

The beautiful cover art for Stephenie Meyer's fourth Twilight series book has been the inspiration for a great number of works - especially graphic art. Now, it seems, collectors can enjoy a new addition with Breaking Dawn-inspired bookends from Barnes & Noble.

The price for the pair is $44.95, and they are described as follows:

Both red and white pieces are resin-cast in the Staunton style, with a beautiful satin finish and felted bottoms. Heights measure 9" for the queen and 7" for the pawn.

Sorry, I'm still ticked I spend $19.99 on this piece of crap the first time....I won't be buying yet another copy BUT in case some of you are interested.

Breaking Dawn Special Edition available soon!

From MTV.com
Just when you thought the books, the posters, lip gloss and the dolls were enough, in comes “Breaking Dawn: Special Edition.” On August 4th, Stephenie Meyer is re-releasing the fourth installment of her "Twilight Saga," but she’s adding some extras that are sure to excite all you Twilighters out there. I know you're eager to once again "sink your teeth" (that line never gets old) into the book and enjoy some new content as well!

The special edition is packed with goodies. According to Borders.com, the book includes a replica of the handwritten lyrics for Blue October’s “My Never” — a song that screams "Twilight" — and a "Breaking Dawn" Concert Series DVD.

I’m super excited for the DVD, because I thoroughly enjoyed the concert when it stopped by NYC's Nokia Theatre last year. The DVD includes a performance by Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October, whose performance at the concert was amazing, and a conversation between the singer and Stephenie.

I can recall Stephenie and Justin sharing a lot of secret information and stories about the "Twilight Saga" during the show and they also discussed how Justin’s music really reflected the story between Bella/Edward/Jacob. Every conversation and song aroused deafening screams from fans. I had so much fun at the concert, so I’m really excited to have the chance to bring that experience home in the form of this exclusive DVD.

But wait! There’s more!

I’m sure your wall is already filled with Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner photos, but just in case there’s some space left, the special edition book also comes with a full-color Edward and Bella poster. I mean what Twilighter — or closeted Twilighter (I know there’s a lot of you out there!) — wouldn’t want that?
